Proyecto SOPHIA
SOPHIA is a research project funded by the European Union (Horizon Europe, call CL6-2024-CIRCBIO-02) that aims to enable the efficient and responsible recycling of solar panels through blockchain technology and Digital Product Passports.
When a photovoltaic panel reaches end of life, no one knows with certainty what materials it contains, whether it has been repaired before, or which recycler should handle it. That information exists but is scattered between manufacturer, installer, waste manager and recycler. The result: valuable materials like silicon, silver and glass are lost. SOPHIA solves this with a Digital Product Passport that connects the entire value chain.
